Setcion of Nederlandse Procestechnologen (NPT)
The NPT is the premier association for inquisitive process technologists in the Netherlands. Our more than 1,000 members come from all corners of the field and from all over the world. While process technology was once associated primarily with refineries, the field today is extremely broad, serving as a pivotal link between the various sciences. Consequently, the NPT operates as a section of both the KNCV and KIVI. Process technologists are indispensable across a wide range of sectors, from food, textiles, and pharmaceuticals to battery technology, water treatment, and CO2 reduction. In this context, the NPT serves as the key connector for professionals dedicated to optimizing processes for a sustainable future.
NPT Magazine
As an NPT member, you are automatically affiliated with the NPT Process Technology platform. This online platform and its accompanying trade magazine offer in-depth technical knowledge, expert interviews, practical case studies, and white papers. The platform’s key focus areas directly address current challenges such as sustainability and the energy transition, innovative separation technologies, the circular economy, digitalization, and process safety.
Activiteiten van de NPT
Spring meeting
We organize an annual spring meeting for our members. This year, members were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Nobian. The company converts salt into low-carbon chemicals and constructs underground energy storage caverns. Together with the government, the company is aiming for net-zero emissions by 2030, ten years ahead of schedule.
Nederlands Procestechnologie Symposium (NPS)
For over twenty years, our annual Nederlands Procestechnologie Symposium (Dutch Process Technology Symposium) has brought together academia, industry, and society to exchange professional knowledge. The 21st edition focuses on the theme ‘Chemical Engineering for a Sustainable Tomorrow’ and highlights innovations for a greener manufacturing industry.
Webinars, networking meetings, and company visits
We also organize additional activities for members on a periodic basis, focusing on current topics. For instance, we recently arranged a company visit to Plant One in Rotterdam, a facility that supports companies in testing and scaling up sustainable industrial innovations such as chemical recycling and energy-efficiency technologies. We also recently held a start-up event for students in collaboration with the *Technologisch Gezelschap* study association at TU Delft.
In-depth courses
Together with our partners, we also organize in-depth courses. One example is the ‘Applied Thermodynamics for Sustainable Chemical Engineering’ course, which we organize in collaboration with ISPT. This course provides (academic) engineers with solid knowledge of applied thermodynamics for designing and optimizing sustainable chemical products and processes in support of the energy and materials transition.
In the Netherlands, there is an openness as well as a tendency not to overcomplicate things, qualities that help to bridge the worlds of academia and industry. As is reflected by the NPT community.
