Trailer:

Erin Brockovich is a biographical drama film from 2000. The story is based on the true story of legal assistant Erin Brockovich, who waged a legal battle against the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). More than 600 people fell ill – many of whom died – as a result of exposure via drinking water to toxic and carcinogenic chromium(VI) compounds (1.4 × 10⁹ L) discharged by the company between 1952 and 1966. Outside California (US), where the story is set, there have since been many scandals involving CrVI. In the Netherlands, for example, the Ministry of Defence and the Dutch Railways (NS) have come under fire for using coatings and paint containing CrVI. Due to their unrivalled anti-corrosion properties to date, CrVI compounds are still used in aviation and by the defence sector.

Join us as we look at how a divorced mother ultimately secured a historic settlement of 333 million USD in 1996. At the time, this was the highest amount ever awarded in a direct civil case in US history.
