KNCV Backerprijs

KNCV Backer-prijs

Ieder jaar wordt door de sectie de KNCV Backer-prijs uitgereikt, voor het beste organische proefschrift van het afgelopen jaar. Het prijzengeld bedraagt € 2.500,-.

De prijs is in het leven geroepen door vier alumni van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen: prof. E.J.R. Sudholter, prof. E.W. Meijer, prof. B.L. Feringa en prof. H. Hiemstra. Zij vernoemden de prijs naar prof. H.J. Backer, die vanaf 1916 tot aan zijn pensioen hoogleraar organische chemie aan de RUG was. Hij overleed in 1959. Uit het legaat van de hoogleraar en de co-sponsoring van de KNCV ontstond het Backer-fonds waaruit het prijzengeld jaarlijks wordt uitgekeerd.
